BWOF-February

I LOVE when it comes on time (or early. I really love early.) You can preview the entire issue online now, but I just have to share my favorites (there are a LOT of favorites in this one).

This is such a great knit top. BWOF always has the best knit tops...and this one really appeals to me! I love the sleeves, and the interesting seam on the bodice. How cute is this?

I expect I'll see lots of this dress in reviews soon on PR! What a great dress, I love the color blocked effect.

What often happens with BWOF when there are really eye catching designs...some of the less eyecatching but still spectacular patterns go unnoticed in the frenzy to make "that BWOF top/dress/etc". So my next few choices are ones I liked in the magazine, but LOVED when I saw the line drawing.

Like this dress...How simple, and yet really cute for spring.

And this top...LOVE the sleeves, and the fact that it's raglan sleeve make it an easier pattern for beginners, AND a quick fix pattern for the non-novices out there. (there are several raglan sleeve patterns in this issue!)

BWOF hearts tunics. So no surprise, there are several in this issue. I typically avoid this style unless it has some sort of waist definition, otherwise I just look like I'm expecting. NOT a good look for me.

Having precursed with that...I love this one. It probably won't look great on me. It has a side zip, which is the bane of my existence sewing-wise, but both views of this are cute. Sue me.

And this one...well it's kimono sleeves and deep V neck, and drawstring...all are calling my name. I don't know if this will be the first item I sew from this issue but it's definitely in the top 3.

The plus section seemed to be repeats of things we've seen before. Apparently in BWOF land you only wear boxy jackets and LONG shirts. Once in a great while they will hit it out of the ballpark with their plus offerings (the summer dress issue last year?!) More often than not I find that section a letdown.

Um, I can't even remember the January issue. And didn't I blog post about how I was just dying for it to get here so I could make...what was it again? Hello, my name is Fickle.

So, what are your favorites from the February issue?

  1. I *MUST HAVE* that drop-sleeve knit top too! And the tunic. February seems to always be a great month for Burda.

  2. I feel the same way as you do, I can't WAIT for the new issue to arrive each month. I'm trying to be content this month and not check the website everyday for the new designs to be posted. As for my favorites, there are a lot. Jackets 102 & 115, skirt 107B, tunics 126 & 110, tops 123 & 129 (this is my super fav.), and dresses 121 & 124A. This is one great issue! I think I might copy you and do a post on it as well. :)

  4. I don't have it in front of me, but love that print dress and the black and pink tunic. I, like you said, need some waist definition, and most tunics don't work, but that might. I also have to be careful about the shoulders not seeming too big since my excess padding is shoulders and tummy. I liked the majority of the women's. I did not like the kids for Communion dresses, they looked like play clothes. They were nice for everyday, but really too shapeless for an 8 year old making her First Communion. That is coming up for us and I have a vintage pattern set aside and plan on buying the nice stuff for it.

  5. I'm going to have to subscribe to BWOF. Since I don't sew for myself I haven't come across this mag. yet, but reading all these blogs is inspiring me. I read Sew Beautiful!!!

  6. I think we should all sew that knit top. I think that will be the first one I sew. In fact, I already have it traced out. Perhaps I'll cut tonight. I'm having a hard time deciding which fabric. I have some more stretch velvet. What do you think in dark red?

I was thinking about that knit top too! I've been staring at it in the magazine (yes! it arrived on time this month) ever since and trying to figure out how it would look on me.

  10. One of the best BWOFs in awhile. Something for everyone. I love the things you picked out, plus there are several cute jackets. My DD has her eyes on a couple of things too.

  12. I have looked through this issue twice and each time find more and more things. The knit top is a must and I wish I had somewhere to wear that dress, it is soooo cute. Maybe I will get one of the many jobs I have applied for, then I could wear that dress! Thanks for sharing.

  13. There are lots of things I like in this issue. Definitely the knit top you mentioned, but I'm also excited about the boat neck top too. So many cute things, so little time. I think it's one of my favorite issues.

  15. I am so glad I renewed my subscription to BWOF as I am truly loving February's offerings. I have yet to make a pattern from BWOF but this is a sewing goal for 2009 and so much to choose from in this issue I have not excuses.

  16. I got my mag yesterday and ofcourse picked out that adorable puffy sleeve knit top to make first! along with everyone else. I also loved the 'granny' hippy dress.. and the dress with the tie sleeves. This is a very good issue!
I thought if I made the exclusive design outfit I would get alot of wear in it too.

  17. I haven't seen the Feb issue, beyond what you've posted. I love the colorblocked shirtwaist dress, But I have to say, "When are we going to See the End of all that Empire waist stuff?"
Sorry, my rant. If BWOF doesn't lose the empire look soon they might lose me as a customer. (I don't really fit their demographic though - too old)
