What I'm obsessed with right now: The colorful, twirly, rick-racked perfection of the "fiesta" or "patio" tiered skirt.
Also charming in dress form:
There are tons of patterns from the 50s for these tiered skirts. I wonder where the inspiration for their popularity came from? Westerns? In any case, there are a wide variety of styles available in pattern form out there...
Surely spring will be on its way soon...
You MUST make a make a peasant blouse! I love the blouse on the left in Simplicity 3145 and I adore all of the skirts!
ReplyDeleteI think all things south western or Mexican were considered exotic in the early 50's.
ReplyDeleteI love that ecru one with the green ribbon waistband. And that first turquoise one. And that red and white one... and...
ack.
I have my Grandmother's skirt, it is cream with gold ric rac and turquoise ribbon, a real beauty. I was trying to get my daughter to wear it and she refused. I am not skinny enough for it :( It came with a shirt, but it was too old and stretched out funny
ReplyDeleteThese skirts do remind one of hot summer days and cool margaritas. Life just has to be fun in a skirt like this:)
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! I wish I could so like you. I did dig out my sewing machine, but not sure skirts are on my list for awhile. Now mom on the other hand... hmmmm. I could get her to make them for me. Is that cheating?
ReplyDeleteI meant SEW. ;-)
