I hesitate to say need. :P But...I SERIOUSLY WANT THIS:
Back view:
And it's even by one of my favorite Project Runway alums, Jillian Lewis.
Beyonce first sported it in May:
And I found another view online (from Celebrity Fashion Tips) that has a good view of the lining & ruffle construction. Yay! The trench is fully lined, and the "peplum" has the ruffle sandwiched between outer/inner coat. The ruffle appears to be of the circular flounce variety (I think if you click the image you'll get a large enough view to see this):
With all the trench patterns BWOF cranks out, there has to be one with a peplum, or at least a seam...right? It's almost trench meets riding jacket in the back. Hmmm. This one will require some thought.
Meanwhile I'll keep lusting.
Hmm I love that coat too !
ReplyDeleteI have nominated you for a Kreativ blogger award on my blog here :-)

Super great coat!
ReplyDeleteI think it would be easy to copy-if you think about it in terms of two pieces joined together. The top part looks like Burda jackets 9/09 #103 or 8/09 #119, which could be modified to look like this one. The bottom part looks like a skirt. The back looks like an 8-gored skirt with each gore much wider on the bottom than the top to create a circle skirt effect. The front looks like triangle. A few layers of ruffle underneath and you are good to go. I think I just talked myself into making one!!!
I would totally wear this, and you are right-why can't BWOF surprise us with a trench like this??
ReplyDeleteDo you have issue 5/2007? The "plus size" riding coat looks like it would be pretty adaptable... you'd have to create a lining, but I think you could do that with the original pattern pieces. The only thing is that this pattern is truly a riding coat so it's single-breasted not double-breasted. Depends on which aspects of the original you're most interested in, if you need the trench coat part then I think Arlene's idea is good.
ReplyDeleteNot for the first time, wish we could post pictures in comments!

Just realized, that pattern has a lining. Doh!
ReplyDeleteOoo, that is wickedly cool! Unfortunately, I'm afraid it would make my caboose look HUGE. But, hey, I'd still wear it - it's not like I can see my butt anyhow. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love that trench!!! Who is it by and how can we make it?
ReplyDeleteI agree that it would be easy to copy. Go to any BWOF trench coat that has a waist seam and add ruffles. It is a great coat, I've never seen one like it.
ReplyDeleteThat IS gorgeous. Is there such a thing as need transference? Because I didn't NEED it before now. Keep us posted if you find one close enough as it may become a NEED sewalong :O)
ReplyDeleteLOVE that coat! That would be so fabulous to wear thru the dreary winter months.
ReplyDeleteThat is adorable! I wish it were a pattern all on it's own! I'd so want to attempt it!
