Gorgeous, right?  Ok and summery, and I'm heading into fall, but I. Don't. Care.  I really want to sew a Crepe now.

Frankly, I've been dreaming of this Crepe thing for a while now...ever since I noticed the dress Amy Adams wears in the final scenes of Leap Year was so similar in cut and style:

I had it all planned out in this post. I even still have the fabrics, prewashed and ready to go. Deep royal blue dotted swiss:

All of which goes to show you...time has sped up way way WAY too fast this year and I plan way way WAY more than I will ever hope to accomplish.  Good thing the planning is fun.

Once Upon a Time...

Is anyone watching this one with me?  Lu & I are LOVING it.  It's our new "must see".  In fact, it's on the "I think we need an Amazon Season Pass" list.

If you haven't been watching, in a nutshell...Prince Charming and Snow White send their baby daughter through a "portal" of sorts to another time/place to save her from the evil queen.  Meanwhile the evil queen sets a curse upon all of the kingdom that deposits every character into present day Storybrooke, Maine.  Only, they have no idea they are fairytale characters.  They have no memories of their actual existence...they're just in limbo.  Emma, Snow & Charming's baby, is the one who can break the curse.  Only, you guessed it, she has no idea who she is either.

It's been a ton of fun so far, and we get excited when a new fairytale persona shows up.  This week it's Cinderella.  It's smart too...the storyline isn't linear so you have to pay attention.  I appreciate smart TV.  (I appreciate dumb TV too. heh.)

I also appreciate gratuitously good-looking heroes.  Mmmm. Charming...

But what has really captured my fancy (shocking) is Mary Margaret's wardrobe!  (MM is really Snow White).  Just a few lovelies she has worn in the first 3 episodes...

Anthro dress!

I've been finding myself searching for a knit pattern similar to this top...BWOF? BS? HP?  I've seen it somewhere.

Mary Margaret has this sweet, schoolteacher vibe (totally opposite her true characterization of Snow White...show you that another time).  I love the cardi's and florals.  Especially with the pixie haircut!  Too cute.

The top that inspired this post...allover lace, deep teal cardi. Yum.

Paired with the cutest pants (cords?  Can't tell!) and GAH.  SHOES.  Must have these shoes.

And how about this cute top...  in lawn??  I have some lawn stashed.  I've got that Simplicity top that is very similar, or the HP Sunshine top.  both would need a placket alteration. 

Yup, lots of inspiration to be found here, which was sort of unexpected!

My weekend plans consist of finding a birthday gift for my sister... not the easiest task.  And, hopefully stitching.  I had a cutting-out fiasco last weekend that I don't even want to talk about. It killed my mojo, let's leave it at that.  But I think I'm over it and can proceed to the nearest sewing exit...

Although it's STILL not finished, I did work on this dress a bit:

Good grief, I started this thing back in MARCH people.  And it has been patiently waiting on me ever since. Can you believe I hand pleated that darn skirt and it's a silly old LINING that's keeping me from finishing it??

Anywho, that's my goal this week.  Finish this dress.  Maybe I just need to start doing that...set a goal each week for one finished object.  UFOs count.

Whee!  I already have a black enamel telephone...I'm just such a sucker for a vintage pin.  What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear did a post a long time ago on this brooch, assuming it was a brass or goldtone telephone.  I never thought that was quite right, and I was fairly excited by the verification that a cream pin existed.  And it will soon be in my hot little hands!

The most fascinating thing I've watched in a long, long time. Highly recommend its placement in your Netflix queue.

Neeexxxtttt....We have a new Joann's! Er, we now HAVE a Joann's. Previously the only source for fabrics/patterns near me was Hancocks, a few indie quilt shops and Hobby Lobby. I made my first stop yesterday. My thoughts...too much "crafty" stuff (more than half the store) and too much fleece. Messy dress fabric section with mostly synthetic fabrics.

So basically it's my local Hancock's, better lit, with fewer buttons. Ah well. It's still nice to have another option! Hope it makes it longterm.

I didn't have trouble finding something to buy, they were having a 50% off most fabrics sale. I got these two plaids: (poly/rayon blend)



Some lightweight white linen for another "anthro" top (yes, I'm going to finish this one and make another. Shut your snark.)


This brown "boucle"-ish fabric (and some brown Bemberg to line):

Don't have a clue what I'm making with any of it but the white linen, but probably (in order): skirt, skirt, top, jackiet, top.

I have a real desire to sew today, so I plan on doing that in some form or another once I unpack and start some laundry. I've been away at a conference for a few days. I love Saturday's, but I HATE unpacking!

Saturday Afternoon No Brainer

This UFO has been sitting by the sewing machine for 2 weeks waiting for ribbon ties.


Fun project to do because it's ONE SEAM! All of the other design work is done for you. These pre-smocked/gathered panels were on sale at Hancocks a few weeks ago, so Lu picked out this juicy summer stripe for a sundress/top.

We scored the perfect matching ribbon for ties.

I finished this project & planned another while rewatching the BSG miniseries (Season 1), i.e. the good old days.

We miss you too, Captain Apollo.

We saw this last night...


It was OK. It didn't give me that cheerful holiday spirit kind of feeling at the end, and there was no cheering and clapping when the credits rolled (like there was at the end of Christmas with the Kranks). Spoilers follow, so stop reading if you don't want to know.

My biggest problem with this movie? A main storyline revolves around Santa's brother (Fred) and his girlfriend and why he won't commit to living together.

ISN'T THIS A FAMILY MOVIE????

I realize this wasn't a religious film, or even a sweet, soon-to-be classic (it is Vince Vaughn, after all). I was also pretty sure at the get-go that we would be watching a secular, "gift-giving is King" kinda film.

That being said, I was very uncomfortable with this message of immorality being broadcast to a room full of families with their children who thought they were there to see a holiday film for families.

The worst part? The big payoff in the final scene is that he DOES commit to moving in with his girlfriend. THAT'S the happy ending to this Christmas movie?

How much more difficult would it really have been to write this character with his inability to commit to marrying his girlfriend? Absolutely no more difficult. At all.

It's a sign of our times. And I don't like it.

My Other Brother Daryl...

Lots of things to report on this Thursday evening. First...did I ever tell you I was psychic? No? Well, just tonight I rented one of these...
and then on CSI evidence from a steam cleaner solved the case!

And then! I've had this amazing soundtrack in my car playing all week...

most specifically the Ewan MacGregor/Nicole Kidman duet "Come What May" on repeat all day today. And I'm moseying through the boards tonight only to find the first message I read ends with the phrase "come what may..." (Cue Twilight Zone theme.)

Speaking of CSI, I read a internet rumor that a certain female lead may find herself in a bodybag come season finale time. That would seriously suck.


Ok, so after all that psychic-energy, you'd think I run over to the Jiffy-Stop and play Lotto or something, wouldn't you? Nope. I steam cleaned the carpets instead. They're so pretty now. A truly scary amount of dirty water was exchanged during this saga. Um, housekeeping's not my forte?

Oh, and for all you stay at home lurker mom's out there....This Article is a MUST READ! Didja have any idea your "worth" was 140K? Of course we all know a SAHM's real worth is priceless!! (Cue Mastercard theme.)

"The most ironic thing happened a little bit ago...a drunk driver hit a little powerbox utility thingy in front of my house. Here's the ironic part, I live directly across from the police station. So instead of the policemen walking over to check out the wreck, they peeled out of their parking lot with 4 squad cars, lights flashing, sirens blaring, and went 100 feet. No joke. How coincidental that the poor drunk crashed right in front of the police station!! I watched it all from a bedroom window...the sobriety test was quite entertaining. The police cuffed and stuffed the poor old woman...and then DROVE her back across the street to the police station!!"

Sunday, Sunday

Ok, this is a tad late, but only because we started softball last night and the time change has me all whacked! Lu & I had a Girl's Day Out on Sunday.

First we had lunch and then shopped for these:

All cute stash fillers, but we're really waiting for the Simplicity sale this weekend at Hancocks!

Next we saw this:
It was SO cute! I can't wait for the dvd to come out. Great, great family movie.
Next we trekked over to Barnes & Noble and picked up these:


(I'm a huge Meg Cabot fan, even though I've never read the Princess Diaries. I even bought one of her "grown up" books...)
and Lu got this (she's a budding gumshoe after her own mama's heart)


and then we perused the magazine section and got this:


which turned out to be a most excellent sewing beginner primer! I hope they have more projects in future issues for those of us "in the know" already, because the format, layout, and writing is just great!

For the ride home from our extra exciting day out, we had one of these... (decaf Creme for Lu)
