dress envy

Have you been watching Drop Dead Diva? I am really enjoying this cute little show on the girl network, Lifetime. Great getaway hour! And the heroine, "Jane" is adorable. It's worth noting that she's not a walking hanger and is just as cute as she can be! How refreshing.

Last week Jane wore this fabulous pink & black dress and I've been searching for a pattern ever since. Here are some snaps of various quality/closeup-ness.

The dress has a button front placket and a collar:

and a really great swishy skirt:

Jane wore it with a black patent belt:

and little cap sleeves. Isn't it (and she) adorable??

Any pattern suggestions?? Would be awesome if it was BWOF, but I'll take anything at this point. It just seems like I've seen a similar shirt dress pattern SOMEWHERE.

  1. New Look 6407 has the neckline and the cap sleeves. I made it years ago and I remember the neckline being a little low for my comfort zone.

I watched a little of that show, and it looked good. I have a hard time getting hooked on new shows because I always forget the time slot!

  2. That is cute. It looks like it has some cute front pleats on the bodice too. Good luck, I can't wait to see what you come up with.

What about this vintage Vogue pattern (V1044)? It has the swishy skirt, button down front, and the pleats? Good luck!

  8. THAT is ADORABLE. And the fabric would be too die for. So what you do you think about the possibilities of this BWOF dress is plus sizes?

It doesn't have *all* the same style details, but might be a place to start or give you the same feel you're looking for. I personally just LOVE this dress and it is high on my to-do list.

  10. Yep, I watch this show too ... and Army Wives after it. Gotta have some mindless girl stuff in this house o'men.

No pattern help, sorry. But don't you just love that Jane's mannerisms and walk are those that are stereotypical of the cute little girls? Cracks me up.

  11. Looks like a vintage shirt dress with a gathered waist, I think you'll be able to find or adapt a pattern pretty easily. Good luck!
