i heart u giveaway.

Have I mentioned that I really love all of you? No? Surely I've mentioned it.

I do! I heart you all at least <----------------------------> much.

So.

In honor of the Christmas season, and to share my love of sewing, books and vintage-y patterns, I've put together a giveaway for you. My sewing blogging buddies.

First, a brand new copy of Sew Serendipity:

Fabulous skirts and jackets and dresses, oh my! This entire book is filled with yummy prints and easy patterns. Just the thing to thumb through with a hot cup of tea or cocoa on a snowy, winter day.

I'm also including this fabulous Hotpattern, the Metropolitan Tie Me Down Tops:

Can you get any classier than a tie-front top? I love this one for the vintage-y shoulder yoke shirring and the V-neckline.

I'll also include a few little surprises in the winner's box.

Here are the rules to play! 1) This giveaway is open to followers of my blog only. I love to meet new people too, but this gift is intended for the people who aren't just passing by to enter a giveaway. 2) Leave a comment by midnight on Sunday, December 19, and tell me one sewing project or technique you'd like to master in 2011.

That's it! I am very lucky in so many ways, but especially I feel lucky to have the chance to interact with all of you on a regular basis. If you all weren't out there, somewhere, I'd be bursting at the seams with sewing chatter and no one to share it with.

I'll use a random generator to pick our winning seamstress on Monday!

  1. I'm the first ??? I just started "following", even though you have been on my blogroll and read yours for a year or so. I want to master pants this next year. Sound easy? Probably not...

  2. Well I guess I officially just started to follow you, but I have your blog saved as a favorite and look each night to see what you are sewing next. I love reading your blog, and just figured out how to actually follow th right way. What do I plan to master..well since I am new to sewing I want to master jackets, pants and skirts. Actually I really want to master fitting patterns. Everything I have mde thus far I have given away because it is either too big or too small. I can sew for others, my daughters or grandchildren, but for me nothing fits right....must be my fluff.

  3. Wheeeeeeee! I want to enter! You are such a sweetheart. What I really want to master in 2011 is sewing for my wardrobe in an efficient, useful way, rather than crazy haphazard things that don't really fit my needs.

  4. I was just thinking the other day about what sewing techniques I've never tried. Actually the conversation (in my head as I had no sewing buddy around) was more about why I've been afraid to try these techniques. I mean when I first began sewing I was fearless so I wonder sometimes when that sense of adventure disappeared. Anyway, I think for 2011 I'm going to finally sew on leather. Such a tiny thing really but it's always frightened me.

  5. I've been a follower of your blog. I think the technique I want to master in 2011 is Speed. I want to be able sew faster and complete more pieces. I would love to be able to increase my sewn wardrobe dramatically.

  6. I'm already a follower! I would really like to learn to do a full bust adjustment this year- I avoid lots of otherwise wonderful patterns because I know I'd need a FBA and I've been afraid to attempt it. So that tops my list for 2011.

  7. I've been reading your blog in my feed reader for several months now. Love it, very encouraging. :) I'm going to attempt to make a coat this winter. And really, I need to just learn how to sew in a straight line. I make all kinds of things and sewing in a straight line is the hardest thing for me. I can't make curtains because of it and curtains are supposedly the easiest things to make!

  8. My sewing goal is to start drafting my own patterns. I have the Sew U series of books by Wendy Mullin which makes it all sound so easy and have recently purchased Cal Patch's 'Design it Yourself Clothes' which also seems to make it look relatively straight forward.

I'm a follower of your blog but I do live in New Zealand so if this giveaway is not available to overseas followers I totally understand and will forgive you :).

    Merry Christmas!

  9. Hi Angie! I would like to perfect a block for my body and design my own patterns this year! I'm a long time follower...I look forward to your inspiration in the coming year!

  10. I have had you on my blogroll for sometime, but I'm an official follower as of now. I've really enjoyed reading your blog. I am amazed by all you are able to accomplish and your interpretation of various patterns. I have sooo much to learn in the sewing department. I'd love to master the art of putting in zippers. Yep, I'm still there. I'd also love to learn to quilt using my regular machine, among many, many other things. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  11. Oh oh oh yes put my name in the giveaway. I started following your blog early this year. I'm continuing a goal from last year: Pattern Drafting. I made some tentative efforts in 2010, but in 2011 I want to be confident. Able to look at any inspiration and draft my own pieces.

  12. I'm just learning how to "follow" a blog...but I've been reading your posts for several months. Well, I would like to make a coat this year.

  13. Like many other commenters, I've been unofficially following your blog through my RSS reader for several months. I've just become an official follower! I'm a total sewing newbie and your blog, among many others, provides me with near constant inspiration (and instruction!) I live in Beijing, China where it has been difficult to find fellow sewists who can help me with techniques and questions so the sewing blogosphere is a godsend.
Since I am a beginner, I really want to master solid and efficient basic sewing techniques. I want to ensure that I have the proper foundation for heading off into more advanced sewing!

  14. Ooh, me too! Been following for a while, 'though I may not have commented recently. In 2011 I'd like to learn to do machine applique (whether or not I will master it remains to be seen). I'd also like to end the year with a smaller stash than I'm starting with, but that's a separate issue.

  15. Hi Angie - I've been following you using Google Reader for some time, but now I've made myself an official follower. I really appreciate your blog and love the inspiration postings - the recent one of the red and white party dresses was fantastic. Sewing goals for 2011 for me? I'd like to get back dressmaking, as opposed to just quilting. And the thing I'd like to learn is to make a pair of pants that fit well and are flattering. Then again, maybe I should go look for the holy grail - it might be easier!

  16. I am a new follower and am happy to have found your site. Hope I get to be counted in on the giveaway! I was a sewer when my daughther was little - then a quilter - now a sew for myself! I will enjoy following a "mature" woman sewing for herself!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I forgot to say what I would like to master in 2011. I would like to learn to make a muslin and get a dress, etc. to fit me properly.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Like others, you've been on my Google Reader for awhile but now I guess I am an "official" follower...though I'm not sure what the difference is!

My goal for the next year is to master buttonholes. I know, I know, it sounds so basic. But my mom has always done the buttonholes for me. Guess it's time for me to learn for myself.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well I heart you too, but I won't put myself in for the drawing. Let's see, what would I like to learn next year? How to be at peace with life. Um. That's not sewing technique is it? Then I'd like to learn how to make bound buttonholes that don't look like horror-film rejects. I'd also like to learn how to be organized enough to sew a garment that required bound buttonholes. It's a sort of "chicken or the egg" thing.

  20. What a great giveaway! Thanks for loving us!!!!

  21. Enter me please! I would love to learn how to work with sheer fabrics!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'll just go ahead and admit it, I do have a sewing book and pattern. There, I've said it, so please enter me in.

The sewing technique I really need to practice in '11 is a collar with stand. I've shied around it for at least two years so hopefully 'll will be the year that I not only practice but perfect it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Does being an anonymous follower count? Because I have been for at least six months, maybe more...

What technique would I like to master in 2011 or try? I'd like to try and master continuous bias binding; I have not had much success thus far, and have wasted fabric, so that now the fear is getting the better of me.

Happy holidays and a safe New Year!

  24. That book looks wonderful! Thanks so much for the great giveaway. Love your blog :) I'd like to sew more apparel for me in the coming year. I've got the girls' tops, pants & dresses down but haven't done much sewing for me. Merry Christmas! mamalusco at ortelco dot net

  25. Oooh! I was just looking at the Sew Serendipity book at a store yesterday- it is on my wish list! I would like to master doing a rolled hem with my serger this year. I've never gotten brave enough to try it. Thanks, Angie for the sweet giveaway.

  26. You have a great blog, so I love it :)
I can't really say what I want to master, because I just started sewing, so I have a lot to learn. My goal is to get a lot better than what I'm doing now :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have been reading your blog for some time but now I am an official follower... lol.

What I want to master in 2011, is fitting. I really need to do better. Oh, and more time to sew would be nice too.

  28. Gloves. I really want to get started on gloves. I have a couple of Vogue patterns bagged up with some stretch moleskin to make some. I would love to make some really cute, embellished pairs.

  29. We heart you too! Thanks for the lovely giveaway. Hmm, one sewing technique I really want to try out in 2011 is bound buttonholes!

  30. Hello! I started following your blog now, but I visit it often.
In 2011 I wanted to deepen my limited knowledge of sewing and make some garments for me.

  31. Good Morning! I love your blog and that you are a teacher, too. I would like to complete a project in the season I begin it. Actually, I would like to become better at fitting (especially FBA's).

  32. Heart u back! Great giveaway! In 2011 I would like to sew everything with more focus and speed - fearlessly, really.

I'm a follower for a bit now....and in 2011 I want to master invisible zippers and Full Bust Adjustments...both techniques leave me feeling like a deer in headlights right now...and both are fairly common....I really want to overcome my fears and become more comfortable with both!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hello! I follow you on my RSS feed - for a few months now - and I really enjoy seeing what you are whipping up!

Next year, I plan to do my first FBA! And perhaps - I have this beautiful Claire Schaeffer jacket pattern with couture techniques - perhaps I will do that!

    Thank you for the giveaway!

  35. I just started reading your blog this year and follow on google reader. I love the vintage inspired garments you make.

I really want to tackle (and master) fitting pants this year.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm pretty sure I follow you. Love that book - 2011 - knitted cardigans and a straight skirt that fits! Happy Holidays. g

  37. I would LOVE to make a little lightweight, but dressy jacket for myself. I have several patterns and fabric picked out- I'm just scared to cut into them.

I've never had a coat or jacket that fit me correctly... but that's been on the to-do list for a few years. Hopefully 2011 is the one!

    What a sweet give-a-way!

  38. My turn! I've been following for a while, but never commented. I love your blog! I love to sew, but am always intimidated by sewing something for my wardrobe. I've never really been able to figure out how to alter the patterns to make them actually fit me. So, that's what I want to master in 2011.
Great giveaway! That book looks fabulous!

  39. Welt pockets that look professional.
I love that sewers are always sew willing to share! It makes for a great online community.

  40. my project? i MUST finish the curtains for my living room, and recover the dining room chairs. they are looking AWFUL with the foam sticking out and being all disintigrate-y.

(i follow you through google reader, is there a more 'official' way to follow?)

  41. I'm a long-time lurker who rarely comments. My sewing goal for 2011 is to get my dedicated sewing space set up so I can have an easier time sewing.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have you in my google reader, and you have been there for some time. I used to work in a sweat shop. It's true I acctually worked in three. I could put a zipper in in less than 10 sec. I now HATE them with a red hot burning sensation. I alter most of my girls dresses to button instead of zippers. SO I guess i need to work on falling in love with zippers again.

  46. Sweet giveaway, Angela. My sewing goal is to actually complete a jacket - even if it's one of the three half-finished ones in my closet.

  47. This is a great question to ask. I am just starting to make my list. But at the top I think it is going to be to make my own dressform. I have had a very easy tutorial that has been lying around for almost 2 years. I need to get this done! My own custom form will help me get a better fit in my clothes.

  48. I am determined to figure out how to bind the edges of a quilt so that it looks good and isn't as much work as the rest of the quilt put together.
I would be so proud of myself if that happened.

    ReplyDelete
  49. You are in my list of blog faves, but guess I wasn't a listed follower...until now! I am on it! I want to master those dreaded zippers that I mutilate each time I try. They scare me.

  50. Oh, how did I miss such a great giveaway? I'm still catching up... I think I got in under the wire-commenting from my phone with baby in my lap. :)
