January Burda

It's been so long since I loved an issue of Burda Style, I was beginning to doubt renewal of my subscription. And then came January! I love the following things. Alot.

Beautiful, vintage-esque garments like these:

These 2 coats may just cure me of my coat-sewing trepidation:

I think I have a Sandra Betzina tee that is similar to this one, but I like it nonetheless:
And the plus section doesn't disappoint either! Wonderful dress with interesting seaming:
FABULOUS high-waist pants. Now these are what I've been waiting for!!

The dress from before, as a top. Very cute. I can even see this in some of my cute cotton (gasp! quilting!) prints. It reminds me of an indie pattern that I can't place, maybe an Amy Butler top? Gaylen will probably know!

I can see a lot of tracing and cutting and (hopefully) sewing on my 2-week winter break! Yay! BS is back! Please don't let this issue be a fluke. (I don't think it is, I liked the February preview in the back too, especially that white dress.)

Oh, and to "JB", who left an interesting comment on the last post...I am so sorry for you, that you have never experienced the amazing thrill ride that is Lee "Apollo" Adama. Get thee a subscription to Netflix asap. Season 1 of Battlestar Galactica will most assuredly improve your disposition. As for the other things you had to say? If you're waiting for me to change my irrelevant ways and snap to your (or anyone else's) tune on my own blog, well, I just hope you brought snacks. 'Cause it might be a while before I find the inclination.

Toodles!

I am glad that you shared the Burda highlights. I adore the coat patterns. I have been thinking of re-subscribing...I love picking out patterns but it is the sewing them up that I have a problem with!

  2. Well, I did drop my subscription (unless someone in my family decided to pick it up again for me for christmas)... but on the other hand, I doubt I'd make any of those for myself. They are totally you however, so I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of them all.

  3. Haha! I LOVE what you had to say about that JB commenter. I don't know why I find that comment so hysterical. Hahahaha!!! Okay, about the January Burda - I too love it. I can totally see you in a lot of those patterns too. Hurray for one great issue!

  4. I agree that the January issue was a treat after a sort of disappointing December issue. If you get around to sewing the pants I'd love to see how you handle the fly front. I never get it right with Burda mag patterns and my Readers Digest sewing instructions don't match up with the pattern pieces provided!

Do you think the vintage inspired coat would be acceptable for the vintage sew along?

  5. I agree, completely! It's definitely got a vintage feel to it, and has much more to offer than the last issue. My last xmas wish is for the tracing lines to be a little less insane...

  6. You go girl......great comeback. I like all the Jan styles you like - may have to go by G Street and pick up this issue..and then go blind tracing the patterns....

  7. Now you ~~know~~ I just HAAAD to see what ol' JB had to say. What a heel. There are plenty of blogs I've deleted over the years ... quietly and without any ado. Classless. Just sayin' - and for your response ... WHOOT WHOOT - you go girl - I look forward to ALL the eyecandy ;-)

  8. Those pattern illustrations are terrific. Finding a Burda locally is hard but I just may look.

  10. Thank you for the preview. there are some lovely things in there. I buy it every month in the bookstore. Don't know why - I've made exactly one item and it still needs a hem - 2 years later.

I don't know what that top reminds me of, but definately something. Maybe it is AB. g

  11. Well, I was going to post my Burda picks, but you've pretty much done it for me! I LOVE that little flutter sleeve top. And I think those high waist pants were included just for me. And that plus dress is gorgeous- I'll have to make a muslin to be sure, but it even looks in the photos like the neckline isn't obscenely low.

  12. Make me clothes, please. I just love the silhouettes you featured! So talented, seriously.

Yes, this is your blog! Write whatever you please! Please? I love it! Since I am not a sewer myself, it's nice to relate to other things, too! ;-)

  14. Are the Burda magazines normally available in fabric stores or bookstores in the US? I might be in Denver and/or Houston in January and I would love to pick up a copy of this magazine. It's hard to find patterns in Beijing and the mail here is just too unreliable to have subscriptions. I'm patiently waiting for two years worth of Patrones magazines to arrive to my Mom's house in Texas. Can't wait to get my hands on those!

  16. Definitely some winners in this issue. I will have to wait until March 11 for it to hit Aussie newsstands.
