a blogiversary & giveaway numero uno!

It's my 5th blogiversary! I'm a couple of days late, but better late than never, right??
And what better way to celebrate than with a GIVEAWAY!  (Or two.)  The first giveaway is from Moi, Yours Truly, Angie.A and consists of the following goodies!  (Be sure to click full size to get a good long peek!)

A fabulous mix of SEVEN vintage patterns from the 30s-50s.  They are on the smaller side, but are beautiful enough to take the time to resize or grade if you need to.  Practically a whole wardrobe of possibilities!

In addition to all that vintage loveliness is a very sweet 16" strand of vintage glass pearls with rhinestone clasp, and a 1920's era Woman's Institute booklet on sewing lingerie & underthings, by Mary Brooks Picken.

The booklet contains diagrams and instructions to draft your own lingerie and is in excellent condition.  The pattern envelopes are in varying degree's of age and use, and one or two are disintegrating but all patterns should still be complete.  (However, I probably will not be going through them before shipping to the winner, so acceptable risk-takers only!)

Now for the important part...  Leave a comment on this post and tell me about your spring and summer sewing plans (or Fall/Winter if you're on the other side of the pond). I'll close the giveaway this Friday at midnight, so get your comments in tout suite!  I'll use a random number generator to choose the winner and announce on Saturday.

This giveaway is open to everyone, from American to Martian, but alas, only one entry per person.

Happy, Happy Monday!

ps...Stay close dear readers...there is another fabulous giveaway coming soon!

  1. What a fabulous giveaway!! My goals for this spring and summer are to really focus on the quality of my garments--I would love to become more of a precision sewer! Right now I'm trying out new skills on a couple of summer dresses and I hope to try making trousers this summer to wear in the fall!

  2. Wow! What a great giveaway - but sadly, I don't see any major sewing in my future - I'm in the busy season with my littles. Count me out for the giveaway (in case some fluke happened and I won!) so it can go to someone who actually might get to use all those goodies in this century ;-)

    Happy 5th blogiverary!

  3. I'm working on sewing an entire vintage spring/summer wardrobe with mix-and-match pieces which should be useable for everyday wear. You can check out the details on my blog. :)

  4. The patterns are wonderful!! I plan on focusing on quick 1940 and 1950 summer dresses that I will be able to get a lot of use out of them. Then possibly a 1940 playsuit and finish the 1940 bathing suit I started last year!

  5. Nice giveaway! My first plan is to get my new dressform properly fitted. After that, I plan to work on my wedding dress - from a vintage pattern of course!

I plan on sewing a few vintage dresses; more importantly, some baby things! Also my real hope is to stock up on 30s-60s patterns in various sizes to sew for others and commercially. Fun!

Great giveaway btw, found you through sew retro. Happy blogiversary!

  7. Oooo...what fun patterns! I'd have to say I have lots of skirts in mind. Maybe some dresses if I can get to it. I also need some plain ol' T's. One of these days I need to get back to my bra sewing, too!

  8. My goal this season is quite brief (tee hee): shorts! I managed to make it through all of last summer with only one pair of shorts to my name! I am currently fiddling with my third pattern redraft (sigh...), but I supposes that as long as I have a workable pattern ready in a month or so (summer hits early here in Georgia!) I will consider this venture a success. And after that, I'd love to shift my attention back to dresses and skirts where it rightfully belongs!

  9. My plan is to sew a coordinating Spring wardrobe like the one on Colette Pattern Blog. The idea of having things to mix and match is fabulous. I also plan to have more dresses in my wardrobe.

I'd love to have these patterns.

    How fun!!!
My sewing plans for the summer are to try to say no to customers and solely make clothes for me and the kids, especially Ella since she will be starting Kindergarten next fall.

oh... and I love those photos of Shirley Temple! :)

  14. I'm trying to build my collection of separates. I've got a couple of blouse patterns and one for some cute retro shorts! And possibly some dresses too! So, in summary, lots of sewing!

  15. My goal is to settle on a selection of garments that offer a somewhat unified style...as opposed to what I do now, which is make whatever I feel like with little thought to how it fits into my wardrobe. Spontaneity is great, however I only have room for so many wardrobes!!! ;-)

    Congrats on 5 years.

Happy Blogiversary!! My spring sewing plans include sewing more often and using up some of my stash. I also want to start experimenting with embellishments like piping, embroidery and ricrac. And I'll continue to use all vintage materials.

  17. Wow, what an impressive giveaway! Happy anniversary!

I have started my spring & summer sewing early (I barely got around to winter sewing at all, so I decided to skip it and plan better for the next season!). My goal is to spend less time daydreaming about what I'm going to sew and more time actually sewing it! I've also prohibited myself from the acquisition of new patterns and fabric until I complete projects from 5 patterns I haven't used before.

  19. Happy Blogiversary! Such a great giveaway! My spring/summer sewing plans are sparse. I have a lot to do for school, so maybe just a few garments. I would love to make at least a skirt and a dress. I do hope I win. Those patterns are awesome and pearls are my favorite! I named my dog after one :)

Just found you from Sew Retro. Your photos are lovely, and I can't wait to explore your blog more. I started collecting vintage patterns a few months ago. My spring and summer plan is to get brave enough to make something from one of them. :)

  22. Happy Blogoversary!! Seriously amazing giveaway! Once I finish my family's Easter wardrobe, I have a whole lineup of selfish Spring sewing. First up will be some white high waist, wide leg pants, then a couple of blouses to match, then I want to sew dresses - mountains of them!

  23. Happy Blogoversary!! Is that a new word?

What a great give away! Spring projects oh my lots. I will be making 6 bridesmaid dresses, Audrey Hepburn's Funny Face Bridal Gown, Grace Kelly's Rear Window, numerous 50's inspired dresses. I'm a busy girl!

Thanks for this give away! Good luck to everyone!

  24. What a wonderful selection, and a beautiful blog too! I'm currently working on a few items from Collette patterns and a 1960s sheath dress to add to my autumn/winter wardrobe so that I'll hopefully look sassy and professional on my teaching rounds later this year.

  26. What lovely patterns! Thank you for being so generous! My spring/summer plan is to finally finish my Alfred Shaheen tribute dress. My draping teacher has been helping me with it but I still have a long way to go developing the pattern. I'd hoped to finish this by spring but I'm aiming for summer now. There's so many construction aspects to think about.I know it will be smashing when I finally finish.

    WHAT A GREAT givaway, thanks : )
my goals now are for winter, because by the time I finish all the summer stuff we will be well and trully there. So, trousers for my boys, merino hoodies too; for me one of each of the 3 types of dresses that come in the book Built by Wendy dresses and a new headboard for a friend : )

  30. What an awesome prize!! And most of those are my size too so ALL my fingers are crossed hehe.

My plans for autumn and winter - I want to make a blazer. At least one. I'm waiting on a gorgeous pattern in the mail right now.

After that, I will attempt to figure out my 1956 Lutterloh book and make something from that.

Also - some awesome floral green cotton arrived from Etsy finally. It only took 4 months! And was meant for a summer dress. But I'm glad it took that long because my skills have gotten better since then and I will make a different pattern than what I originally intended for it.

AND - I have plans to make more tops and separates, especially nice drapey blouses.

    Phew!

  31. ohh what a lovely giveaway.

  32. What a lovely giveaway! And happy blogiversary! =) I'm planning on sewing lingerie coming fall, so the book and the slip pattern would be great. And the patterns are all in my size!

I'm keeping my summer sewing-plans modest this year; 1) a 40s dress (a bit like the Swing-dress" in a blue cotton batiste with pink roses. 2) a 50s linen dress with a full circle skirt and scalloped neckline. 3) I'm considering putting some finishing touches on my test-run coat, which would then be a wearable summer coat (it's in denim, a test-run for a winter coat).

    ReplyDelete
  33. Happy Blogiversary! I've only been reading your blog for a few months, but it's great!
My sewing plans for this summer are to sew 3-4 '40's or '50's summer dresses (I'm already halfway done with the first one :)), and I'm hoping to find a cute blouse pattern, as well as a swell New Look suit pattern (I'm so bad, I'm going shopping for suiting tomorrow even though I have no suit pattern...I work backwards.)

  34. Happy Blogiversary! I absolutely love your blog!! Very excited about the giveaway too! I've got TONS of sewing plans for spring and summer including tackling a few outfits outside of my normal time period (I'm trying a 70's pattern and a 60's Jackie-o type suit), continuing with my Sewing through the Decades challenge which will include several lovely blouse patterns (1945 up next) and I have a really, really lovely 1936 summer dress pattern I want to make up this summer! Phew! Thanks for the lovely giveaway!

  36. What a nice giveaway to celebrate your blogiversary! I have not been reading your blog for long, maybe two weeks as I found it while searching for dresses and tops to sew. For spring and summer I want to sew tops and skirts. I already have two good skirt patterns that I perfectioned last winter for heavier fabrics and need to try them out for lighter summer fabrics. I am still searching for a basic top pattern for cotton fabrics.

  37. I've got a super exciting trip to Italy lined up over June / July so all of my energy is going into creating outfits for then! Some of those patterns are divine and would be perfect! What a lovely giveaway

  38. Amazing giveaway.
My spring/summer is all about wearable and interchangeable garments. Emma Pilsbury from Glee is my inspiration so I can get some practise in on sewing separates. I want to use bold colours like mustard, emeralds, plums and coral. Enhancing my wardrobe with lots of things I can wear together so hopefully by next year I can join in on some me made months

  44. Happy blogiversary! What a fab lot of prizes - how can you bear to part with them?
I've only been sewing since the start of the new year, so my main goal is to reproduce some of my favourite wardrobe items (i.e. I'm now making a red tulip-shaped version of my favourite yellow daffodil skirt!) I'm also starting to buy and sew some vintage patterns - on the hunt for the perfect 40s dress pattern to pair with some beautiful vintage fabric I found. And keeping my eye out for wedding dress ideas too - phew!

  46. Happy blogiversary! Your giveaway looks wonderful; just right to get started sewing vintage! My (tentative) plans are: a yellow shirtdress, a denim skirt, a floral circle skirt or dress.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Those patterns look amazing. I'm keeping my plans for spring/summer sewing quite simple as I'm still learning though with a vintage theme. I've already made Colette Pattern's Sencha but I plan to make another in a lighter weight material. I'm currently in the process of making a Coffee Date Dress which I found on Burdastyle and upcoming projects will hopefully include a 1940s style swing dress, a halterneck top or dress to show off my upper back tattoo in the summer and a circle skirt /jumper (similar to the stripey number from the Red Velvet spring line https://redvelvetshop.myshopify.com/collections/fashion/products/the-record-store-jumper )

  48. Oh my, thank you so much for such a generous giveaway! My spring/summer plans are to sew better quality garments and to make sure they look great on the inside too. I'll also be re-visiting a couple of failed projects from last year!

  49. Currently my sewing machine lives in another town, miles from where I'm at, but I'm itching to sew dresses. A vintage-ish Vogue pattern with a lovely wide skirt has been waiting for me for a long time now, but I'm also pining for wiggle skirts :)

    Congratulations on the blogversary Angie!

I am absolutely blown away by your generosity ~ I have never won a giveaway before, but I can tell you right now I am dying to win yours! Such lovely items ~ thank you for this opportunity!!

My plans for fall/winter sewing is to firstly buy my own sewing machine and then I really want to turn out some circle skirts in warmer materials such as wool or corduroy. I think circle skirts are such an essential part of a vintage wardrobe and I do not have one! I will be rectifying that as soon as possible. : D

My spring/summer sewing plans, eh? Well, what with building the house and moving, I'll be happy if I even manage to hem a pair of pants. If all the planets align though, I will be sewing up some cute work-appropriate sundresses.

  55. Beautiful patterns!! Because of you I am hooked on vintage. I love it. I have started collecting some patterns and am getting ready to start. I am tall so I have a terrible time finding ready made clothing to fit. I am going back to my roots and making my entire wardrobe. I was a longarm machine quilter, but I have been inspired to get back to my real love, sewing. Thank you for your inspiration!!

i'm in the thick of my spring/summer sew-a-thon, and i keep adding crap to the pile so i fear it will never be finished! ha!

i am incorporating crop tops + high waisted shorts into my wardrobe this year, so i will be working on that. also, pretty cotton & seersucker sundresses, my first maxi dress (in cream/off-white eyelet), a floral bustier top (to wear with said high-waisted shorts), my first western-style pearl-snap shirt (which will be piped & hand embroidered), and my friend and i are talking about making matching rompers for the hell of it. also, i just ordered the ceylon from colette patterns, which i'd loove to make up in navy/white polka dot voile with white piping.

i need to stop buying patterns and fabric. LOL.

  73. Great giveaway! And congratulations on the 5th anniversary! I'll be starting a blog myself soon, to document my vintage and sewing adventures, and I hope it gets at least to its 5th anniversary. I found you through Sew Retro. My efforts of making a vintage wardrobe for myself are only in the beggining. We're starting fall eight now, and one of the things of my list is a pair of pants, sailor style. A few pensil skirts in darker wintery shades are also waiting to be made. I just decide as I go along, as I don't always have the time to make all tha thing I want. And I'm a begginer to sewing, so it takes me a while to get things done.

  80. What a great giveaway! My spring summer sewing plans are vast, and probably too big to completely tackle, but I will try. I have started working on a new dress pattern, Crepe by Colette patterns. Actually plan on making a few of that dress and several full skirted 50s dresses. I also have a 60's playsuit pattern I am itching to work on, as I love to wear playsuits all summer long. If I am ambitious enough, I want to make a Hawaiian-sarong type 50's dress.

  81. Great giveaway and happy blogiversary! 5 years takes some moxie!

This spring, I hope to make my first dress. I am a beginning sewist and feel confident enough to give it a shot. My goal for the next several months is to get more acquainted with technique and become a more proficient and precise sewist.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I've been studying abroad this past year and thus have access to neither my stash of fabric nor even a sewing machine, but I have been making so many vintage-inspired designs. I've also gone from a size 5 to a 1 to a zero since starting college three years ago, so this summer I really want to update my wardrobe by making things that actually fit. Versatility is also important to me because I'll have a very limited amount of time to dedicate to sewing. My plan is to make dresses that can be worn in the summer and then later paired with sweaters for cooler weather, but what I'd really love is to start making some 1930's dresses. The line really suits my body type, but I have none from this period! I have a few 30's patterns but they are for quite large sizes and I just haven't gone about resizing them.

This spring I'm planning on making a sundress(or three), some new skirts and continue to try to find a shirt that I can stand once it's made.

  92. Hi! How exciting for you! I just started my own blog very recently! My spring and summer goals are to calm finish a quilt! Also, I'm currently working on vamping up my wardrobe, as I've recently gained some weight and have very little (cute things) to wear. Vintage would be a great new adventure! :)

  93. Happy Anniversary! Great give away thank you. My dream for the coming Winter is suits. I have two very special 1950's suit patterns with beautiful detailing on the jackets and wiggle skirts. I will aim for two and maybe get one! And a lovely silk blouse to wear underneath. That is the dream.

Congrats on your blogaversary!! I love your blog and am excited to enter your first ever giveaway. My sewing goal is very simple. To quit thinking and dreaming about sewing and actually SEW something already. I have literally hundreds of patterns but can never just pick one. This spring I am going to sew some simple vintage-y dresses with nice full skirts. Something Chuck would wear!! Thanks for all the inspiration. : )

  96. Happy fifth anniversary!

I'm a slow seamstress, so even if spring is approaching, I'm planning for fall. I have just started a project of building a 1940's wardrobe during eight seasons, so that is mainly what I make right now. A hat and a house drss are the next items. But I will try to cram in some fifties summerfrocks too. :)

How lovely! My spring/summer plans include a navy wool skirt suit, a pair of denim overalls to wear while my husband and I do volunteer building projects, and at least two vintage/retro summer dresses. I also have a few UFO's to complete.

I am moving to a new apt, but hopefully I will get the 2 bed one so I can have a sewing room! Then I plan to try to sew a new wardrobe...bit by bit. I will be sewing purses and hats...I have some vintage patterns for both, 1940 era. I also want to sew a few belts too.

Oh, so much to do and so little time...

  102. Great giveaway! Thank you for including me. This spring I will be sewing diapers! Lots and lots of diapers. I also hope to knit a pair of soakers from a pattern published in 1942. Later in summer I will start making flannel nighties for all the little girls in my family. I have been gathering my vintage patterns and soon I'll start looking for the flannel.

  106. Wow. What a nice giveaway.
My summer sewing plans involve an old trading post that is about thirty miles from where I live. My favorite thing to do is theme sewing- where eventually the wardrobe ends up on location to be photographed. I love to sew, but more than that I love creating a story.

  107. What an amazing giveaway, my sewing has taken a back burner as I'm doing some knitting, creating some great cardigans and boleros to go with my summer dresses.

  108. I would love to sew a lightweight linen dress this summer--something simple yet pretty--and a pair of high waisted trousers. This is an amazing giveaway. Thank you!

  112. Plans, Oh do I have them this year! I plan to go to a quilt hop in Atlanta with my sister-in-law, niece and a friend in a couple of weeks. In April I'm going on a mission trip in West Virginia, upon returning home I will turn around and go with my mom to drop my dad and brother off to begin their attempt at the Appalachian Trail. The week after returning I have a friend I haven't seen in over twenty years coming to visit, and two weeks after that my eighth grand child is due, so I will help my daughter's family as they adjust to their new addition. Whew! I'm tired already!

  113. Congratz on the anniversary....I plan on starting a pencil skirt this weekend...then grading up a dress pattern from 1953 and making it out of some tattoo flash fabric.

I love your blog. Congrats on your anniversary. I will be quilting, sewing bags and some dresses for my daughter. Maybe I will get over my fear of knits and maker her some leggings with the serger?

  115. Suhweet giveaway! I'm planning on making some vintage dresses (have a plaid shirtdress in the works now). But probably mainly seperates. Since there seems to be more versatility with those. :)

  116. Congratulations on your 5 year anniversary! I'm happy to have just discovered you through Sew Retro, I'll have to spend some time digging through your archives. Thank you for hosting such a generous giveaway. My spring and summer plans are to continue my recent phase of making blouses in lovely print cottons and to get a few cotton dresses ready for spring. I'm going to try and think more creatively about making matching accessories, too (bags, headscarves, etc.).

  117. Congratulations on the anniversary! I'm planning on trying to sew more with light colours - everything I have is a rich, dark colour. I'm thinking a cute fruit print dress (apples or lemons) and a sage green and cream summber dress. Can't wait!

  118. Wow - I feel like I must be a vintage pattern stalker - at least two of those patterns are ones I've missed out on at auction in the past few weeks!!

I'm hoping to finish a blouse from a 60s pattern I've started in time for spring (silk crepe - scary!) and I'm on the hunt for a nice plain cotton to make the skirt in the same pattern pack. I've also got some great vintage damask that will become a 60s-ish dress - I'm very excited about that.

Thanks for posting on Sew Retro - otherwise I wouldn't have found your fab blog! :) Happy Blogiversary!

    Happy blogiversary!

  120. Wow... this is a great giveaway, and I'm glad to see so many others are just as excited (and hopeful!) as I am to win. Happy blogiversary!! My Spring and Summer sewing goals/plans are to sew more skirts, more dresses and maybe a blouse or two. I'm a big fan of dresses. I'm still learning how to do more challenging sewing projects, so this Summer I will definitely try harder things. Excited for the warm weather and Spring Break from my classes. All I want to do is SEW! :) Thank you for the chance at this giveaway.

  121. Those patterns are so beautiful!!
My sewing plans for spring/summer are to finally sew my first vintage-patterned dress! I have lots of vintage-style fabrics, but I hadn't bought a vintage pattern until last week! I can't wait until I sew it in any of my lovely fabrics! And of course, these precious patterns you give away would be perfect to continue..!
Thanks for the giveaway, and congratulations for your blogiversary! :)

  122. Hey there! Happy blogiversary! I sure do love your blog. Please do not enter me in your fabulous and generous giveaway as I have a serious addiction to vintage patterns and already own way too many. So, how much do you think it would cost to ship if a Martian did end up winning? Just curious :-)

  126. Hello, here we have no seasons as well defined as you, then plan a wardrobe for the rainy season and one for no rain. rsss. For the next month I renew my work clothes, with: 02 tanks dresses, white shirts 02 and 02 and 03 neutral color pencil skirts. But for fun I'm planning a turnaround, leaving the serious tone and adopting prints and salts rounds and some summer dresses and fresh.

I admire your blog and am always here.

  128. Yummy vintage patterns, how fantastic! I'm trying to sew down my stash this spring/summer - a couple of years ago, my mom bought me a ton of beautiful Indian cotton that I've never done anything with - this might be the year.

  129. 5 years. And I only just found you:)
Anyway, I was not really into vintage but lately I've been checking them out.
My next project is to sew a dress for both my girls. One is Audrey inspired (with jacket), (Ottobre kids, 3/2008. And the other one is the Harebell dres from Ottobre 3/2010. Not really vintage but with the right materials it will be perfect. Big coloured polkadots for the first dress and little flowers with little squares for the 2nd dress.
First time ever I smocked a dress (or whatever it's called in english). Saw a tutorial from Martha Stewart and tried it myself. Easy, easier then I thought.

  130. Happy Bloggiversary! I read your blog all the time. All the things you make are so cute, you are a real inspiration. This spring I am busy sewing co-ordinating dresses for myself and my 10 yr old daughter... vintange inspired of course! Hers has quite a bit more tulle and bows than mine though, lol. My boys and the hubby will get matching ties. Such fun! For the summer I think I'd like to make some light weight shirtdresses, something easy to wear yet classic. But... maybe in fun colors like yellow and hot pink?!

  131. Happy blogiversary! I love reading your blog. I am just about to start spring/summer sewing (mostly dresses, in lovely bright flower prints) because I am on vacation next week (can't wait!) Happy Friday!

  132. I am planning to make some skirts if I can find a pattern that I really like and that has all of the features I want, namely pockets for my office keys and room for the ample rear. Skirts are so much easier to wear than pants in the summer. But I have so many cute blouse patterns that I really want to make too so we will see which get made first. I love that McCall's 9389 pattern.

  133. Great giveaway! As the slowest sewer in world my goal for spring is simple, sew 3 dresses for an upcoming event. PS in reality i would settle for 1 dress the fits very well and maybe a OK fit second, don't tell :)

  134. Well i'm unsure as to whether this comment will be in time or not but i'll take this oppourtunity to say I love your blog! It is inspirational and helpful to see someone who isn't the size of a pin wearing these fabulous outfits, I always worry that the clothes I make will look silly when I finish them and try them on!
My goals for the summer are to have a wardrobe full (well enough to have a different dress each day of the week!) of dresses that I have made myself, to organise my fabric stash in an efficient manner and finally to keep up my blogging! I had a 2 1/2 year gap between starting my blog and actually updating it, so far so good with keeping it going!

    Happy blogiversary! xxx
