summer seersucker

I love seersucker, but in the grown up world, how often do you get the chance to use it for yourself? This week I saw an adorable photo on Pinterest, that I immediately repinned (via the Satorialist).  The dress itself is quite simple but so easy, so lovely, I decided it most definitely needed a place in the sewing queue.

Just the barest hint of a cut-on cap sleeve, not-too-full gathered skirt, breezy seersucker.  I even love the wrinkles!

You can see my plan above (click for large view), including my very retro (but not quite vintage) c. 1994 pattern.  I've cut out view B bodice in a narrow turquoise stripe seersucker, with the gathered skirt.

This is such an easy pattern, a pull over your head and go kind of dress.  Hmmm...I might need two or three!

  1. Cute! When does a vintage pattern, become vintage? I've never even owned seersucker so I'm excited to see what you come up with!

Also, there is a totally undesirable photo of myself sneezing in your side-bar!
*Note to self* Always make the first photo in a post smoking-hot, and don't sneeze.

  2. I wore seersucker in the early 80s as a university student who hated ironing. I like the easy charm of the dress you are planning.

  5. Pretty fabric....In hot, humid DC summers, the only rule is to be cool and comfortable!!! Can't wait to see the dress when you finish!!!
On another note, I finally finished a wearable object!!!

  6. I love seersucker!!! (Though oddly I don't think I have any seersucker garments in my closet right now... *cries*) I think this will look so pretty and be a perfect spring/summer dress! Can't wait to see it. :)

  8. I worked with a wonderful man once who wore a seersucker suit to his son's high school graduation. It was amazing. I love seersucker, too--might have to track some down!
