The most beautiful girl I know.

I don't know
How I survived
In this cold and empty world
For all this time
I only know
That I'm alive
Because you love me

When I recall

What I've been through
There's some things
That I wish I didn't do
And now I do
The things I do
Because you love me

the eagle has flown.

 He uttered the words every
American child can still recite,
with imagination and wonder,
and eyes pressed high.

Fare thee well, Mr. Armstrong.

Safe flight.

fields of gold.

Many years have passed
since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run
as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold

You'll remember me
when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun
in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold

Clouds. And shoes.

Look to the Clouds
“Suddenly I have this feeling
Tasting copper in my mouth
I look to watch the clouds for my last breath…”
~The Boy Who Trapped The Sun, Copper Down

We've had some crazy good sunsets lately. I think it's the weird but lovely cool-ish weather we've had. KNOCKING WOOD HERE.  (Ok and yes, this Oklahoma girl is calling 93 degrees cool, but it's the truth.  WAY better than the 115 or better we saw this time last year and the year before. Lord, that's practically FALL temperatures).

Anywho.  Pretty.

I've been taking one picture a day for 16 days (well more than 1 on most days), some of which you've seen and several you haven't.  I added my flickr badge back to the right sidebar though, in case you want to follow along. I'm participating in the 365 Project.  (1 photo a day for 365 days).  I'm placing them in a set, so they're all in a nice, neat package of photos.  A couple of bad cell phone photos, but I've been having fun trying to come up with new and interesting things.

This is more difficult than it sounds since I spend most of my time looking at the sky and/or clouds when I'm outside.  Expect lots of cloud photos over the next year. ha.

Also, I just ordered another pair of trail shoes, this pair by Salomon. I meant to get green ones (hot hot lime green) but hit "one-click purchase" while it was on the bright purple.  Whoops. I'll have 2 pair of bright purple running shoes.  These have more support and were a tiny bit more expensive than my last pair (which didn't end up having enough support in the arch).  TMI?

And...more Pretty.

Wow.  I just noticed that it's after 10 pm.  I'm back in teacher mode during the day but it sure is hard to retrain my sleeping habits, which seem to be stuck on SUMMER.

Summer, how I loved thee.

My fellas.

When I was 6, this was my favorite movie.
I spent many a day learning to pick a lock.
Because I was going to be in a
gang with these two.

I still kinda wish I was in a
 gang with these two.

(and I can still pick a lock)

Happy Birthday, Mr. Redford.

we become what we think.

flash of a firefly.

“What is life?
It is the flash of a firefly in the night.
It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime.
It is the little shadow which runs across the
grass and loses itself in the sunset.”
~ Crowfoot

Like two doomed ships that pass in storm
we had crossed each other's way:
but we made no sign,
we said no word,
we had no word to say.
~Oscar Wilde

~~A beautiful storm last night...but not enough rain.  There may never be enough rain at this point.~~

Wakey Wakey

There's a Snakey!

Snake Trail

Not something I want to see on my morning walk!  Although at least it wasn't the slithery thing it belonged to. Ew!

What else have you  missed the past few days... let's see.  I went back to school yesterday and got a TON done in my room (I'll share pics when I get it all set up).  I moved upstairs to the "penthouse" this year, so I have a new room again.  It's AWESOME.  I'm on the top floor with a corner room, so I have several beautiful window views to gaze out of.  Instead of working.  Hmmm..that could be dangerous.

I've been going on my morning walks earlier and earlier, trying to get in the groove for "back to school".   The sun is so pretty coming up through the trees (and so much cooler than the 110+ we've been getting midday around here.)

I even got sprinkled on one day.  See, here's the one sprinkle:

That's pretty much the gist of my week, in photos! (and if you follow me on twitter you already saw them, ha!)

I did not get my dresses overnighted to sweet Rachel and her husband who are on their way to Haiti tomorrow, but she did give me a contact to her organization so that I can mail the package to them instead. Hopefully this group of dresses will go out with the next team.  Thank you SO MUCH to Tricia and Rachel.  I'll unbox the dresses this morning and snap some photos so you can see this batch!  They're so cute.

So many of you offered to contact groups or friends for me, and I appreciate every one of you!  Please do let me know if they are interested and I'll spread my dresses around.  My email is up in the right hand corner of this blog if you'd rather contact me personally.

I've had some of the best, most thoughtful and insightful conversations about donating to charitable organizations and philanthropy in general this week via email with several of you.  I heard from many readers (you lurkers you!) whom I had never gotten to know before, and I loved that part!

You guys are the best!

ps...would you believe I just last night opened my July Burda Style?? I'll try to form some coherent thoughts about this issue and share them this weekend too.  I've even got a swishy SKIRT planned.  Yes!  Sewing!

Happy Weekend!

...And the Kindness of Strangers

This is a photo I took last night, after writing yesterday's post.  Such breathtaking beauty, if only you look for it.

Thank you seems too small a thing to offer for the gratitude I have for you all right now.  But yes, thank you, thank you!  I was overwhelmed with the responses and the offers of help.

I will be madly tying ribbon ties this afternoon to try to get to the post office before they close today, so that I can overnight a package of dresses to a couple who are leaving for a 6-month sojourn to Haiti...on Sunday.

Providence?  Maybe.  More than that, it's a lesson to each of us.  You do not walk alone, even when the lane is dark.  Reach out, ask for help, take the hand when it is offered.

Bless you, all.
