brrr.

Well, we had a white Christmas! Did you?

More pics of that and some furry cuteness in just a second. First though, I can finally post pics of the single handmade gift I crafted this season. I would be more ashamed, but the 3+ weeks of flu I suffered seriously cut into my usual Christmas craftiness. Sooo...here she is. Miss Kitty2:

She's pretty fetching, don't you think? Her boggly eyes crack me up (I used 1940's plastic buttons from my vintage button tin). The pattern can be found in this book by Jenny Ryan, Sew Darn Cute.

Technically the pattern is for a Square Bear. But my Lu loves kitties, so I just redrew the ears and added some kitty-like whiskers to her little pink, embroidered nose.

Lucky for me, while Lu may be fast outgrowing all things dolly (sniff), she still appreciates a good plushy! Just some details on Miss Kitty2: She is made from mint green wool felt (head, back & extremities), a cute "3 pigs" Japanese linen for the body front, and red rickrack accents. I used scraps of quilting cotton in a retro print for her ears, and pinked all the edges of her ears, arms and legs. She also has a red satin bow tacked to one ear, because she's a sassy kitty.

Now on to weather pics, in case you're on the beach and need to see the white stuff. It's been several years since it snowed on Christmas here! But it was blizzard conditions all night Christmas Eve, and bitterly cold. (It's still well under 30 degrees F.)

This is from Christmas morning in my back yard; the wind was whipping the snow so hard it made your eyes water!

See? Oscar says Brrr.

So does Megs.

Refrigerated Farm Food:

Jessie:

And one more of little Os, who actually loves the snow and would have stayed out longer. Except I'm a wuss and made him go in with me.

Christmas was wonderful, and over too soon. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday too!

poms on Thursday....et.al.

Look at me sharing the doggy AND on the right day and everything. (Did I really just say look at me? I'm not conceited, no sirree.)

Os-Man in all his shaggy, "I need a haircut but I'm such a rock star glory"...

He's even got the crazy eye thing all the good rock stars have.

Hmmm. So do the kids.

Moving on...I picked up these new New Looks yesterday. Because it's not as if I don't have 7 Works in Progress lining the sewing table (previously known as the Kitchen Table Where We Used to Have Dinner and Stuff).

NL6873, the cutest dang skirt, short & pant combo!!

And NL 6875, a knit wardrobe pattern. Note the gathered front neckline on the tee. Because I am a glutton for "I already have this in a TNT but I can't stop myself from trying new ones" punishment.

In completely un-Numero Uno-ish news...my best friend from childhood, Tina Ann Forkner, has a new book coming out in May, The Rose House.

Her debut novel, Ruby Among Us, was released in 2008. I hope you'll stop by her blog and sign up for a chance to win a signed set of both novels.

Many, many years ago Tina & I wrote in wide rule notebooks, passing stories back and forth (and then around to all our friends, who waited with bated, Fruit Stripe scented breath, for the next installment.)

I've got LOADS of pictures to scan and share at some point in th near future, including shots of the various activities we partook in, like...cutting "paper dolls" out of the JC Penney catalog and giving them fancy names and elaborate lifestyles, eating S'mores at girl scout camp, cheerleading, swimming in the creek...

She was like a sister to me when I was growing up, and I'm really proud of her success. Congrats Tina!

Off to stare thoughtfully at my WIPs and UFOs.

poms on Thursday

I got tickled at Sharon's post...Dogs on Thursday! (Everybody's Doing it!) And Gaylen prods me for pooch pics pretty regular too. And you know, Fat Kitty is not my only sewing assistant.

No, there's OsMan too...(just plain Oscar when he's not saving the world from poorly drafted FBAs.)

OsMan has a theme song. It goes something like this...

na na na na na na na na
na na na na na na na na
OsMaaan....Super dog

(sung to the tune of Batman, with just a dash of Shaft there at the end)

(Sorry girls, no noses. Well, no noses closeup at least. Superhero pooches need their beauty sleep apparently.)
