May Burda Style

May Burda's here!

It's not my favorite issue of 2011, but I do love the 1950s pictorial (and I cannot wait for the Bardot pictorial next month!  I LOVE Brigitte Bardot's style!  I don't care about her controversies and life choices whatsoever.  I just think she was simply adorable.) Anywho...

This cute little shirt dress with the peter pan collar might be my fave in the whole issue:

And there's one more (very similar) shirtdress too:

The little cropped pants are super cute, but I was disappointed the tee wasn't in the mag (and the pants are completely the wrong size for me):

The 3/4 sleeve dress is a very pretty basic, with GIANT pockets!

In the plus pictorial, I love this little summer dress, #130:

It looks like one of those dresses I would wear a million times.  I like the gather-shoulder sundress in the plus section too.  If my poor little eyes can take the strain, I might try tracing it too, because it looks like another good summer basic.

Do you have any pics for the May issue?

  1. I just barely opened mine - I haven't even really looked yet. Plus, there has to be an easier way to trace them. eh? g

  2. This month is my last issue, and it has clinched the non-renewal. I was totally meh, although the shirtdresses were reasonably cute, and as usual, I liked all the plus styles, but grading them down to a 38 is probably not going to happen in my world. Bye-bye, Burda. It makes me sad.

  3. Good gracious! I'm head over heels in love with that first dress! Might have to try and track down a copy of the May issue for myself. ;) The big-pocket one is pretty sweet as well...

  4. The slim vintagey dresses are cute, but the big pocket one is so 80's-early 90's. I like it, wore some like that then, but wouldn't now 20 years later. The plus ones are great. I didn't renew, either. I hate the tracing and the styles were being repeated. This is different, may have to order a single issue from Fashionista or someone else.

  5. I think I'll wait for the next Burda Plus issue. It will have these cute Burda dresses in it since they can't be bothered anymore to actually put new plus sized patterns in the plus issue. Since the plus issue doesn't include very many patterns, than it should be easier to trace, unless they decide not to do a two-sided pattern sheet.

  6. Can you believe how many cute patterns this time after so many with out anything worth making. I can't believe they made a cute tall pattern. My daughters 5'10" and they always make the tall patterns so ugly and huge loose fiting sacks. Love the tall dress and skirt.

  7. I really like your first pick (the collared shirt dress), but don't understand what is up with the blousing in the back? Looking at the profile pic, it stood out like a sore thumb to me. Jacket 112 is adorable... wish I could find that exact fabric!

  9. I really liked the dresses in the Plus collection. Perfect timing because I really need dresses.

  10. Maybe I'm just missing "Big Love" but that big pocket dress just screams "sister wife" to me. The model's styling doesn't help at all. But I do like the little gathered sleeve & neck dress a lot. It does look like something that would be so easy to slip on and flounce around in. (Yes, I spend my summers flouncing.)

  11. I am in Australia and this may sound a silly question, but where can I get a copy to puchase the first dress pattern with the Peter Pan collar?
    Happy sewing !
