A Simpler, Quieter Life
December is flying by and once again I haven't had time to settle down and enjoy the time leading up to the holidays.
I have Pinterest boards for both Christmas and handmade Gifts, but I haven't had time to even peruse them.
Next year seems so far away, and yet I found myself just this past weekend thinking about planning better next year.
SERIOUSLY?
Shortly after that I realized my life could stand to be a lot simpler.
I originally created my FB account when I was doing business on ebay sewing toddler girl's clothing. Then I kept it because I discovered my tiny babies were suddenly teenagers and I wanted to keep up with them (and their friends).
Then all my coworkers and friends (old, new and barely met yet) had a Facebook. So I should have one! Except... it kinda creeps me out. It's always creeped me out. It's terribly invasive. It's time-consuming. It's a new and improved way for people to be rude and unkind to one another. It's a neverending mish-mash of TMI.
If you're my friend or family member, chances are you have my phone number and/or address. Call me. Or write a letter. Or, you know, email me one of those really important emails I actually want to read.
And if you're my child, well, I already know what you're doing and what your friends are doing because I talk to you every day. Every. Day. And I like that much better than Facebook.
I plan on continuing to find ways to simplify and pare down my life. What do we really need? What makes me truly happy? What do I cherish the most?

SERIOUSLY?
Shortly after that I realized my life could stand to be a lot simpler.
I started by unsubscribing from every company in my email inbox. Two hundred plus emails a day is 195 too many.
Then I got really radical and deleted my Facebook account.

I really loathe it. So I deleted it.
And I feel so much better.

Happiness lives inside us all.
Set it free.

Shallow Sunday and the Snake
Sooo I was all mojo'd up because of this, and I went tra-la-la-ing through my fabric boxes (stored behind my sewing cabinet door) looking for the PERFECT wintery fabric and what should fall into my lap but...
A FREAKING SNAKE SKIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even me, with my ever present camera, cannot capture this for you on film. I've still got the shakes.
(If I were Oona, I'd have a stash of liquor suitable for curing a snake shake, but since I am not I don't. ALAS.)
You know what soothes my shaken, battered soul? Pinterest.
SPECIFICALLY...yummy eye candy on Pinterest.
If I had to choose just one to deal with THE SNAKE, I'd go with McQueen.
If I had to choose one to MARRY RIGHT FREAKING NOW, it'd be Colin Firth. (But we might have to hire someone to deal with the snake.)
Random interesting Pinterest fact... Cary Grant has the most repins of anyone on my pin board. Dudes everywhere should start taking notes methinks.
Now I'm off to drink a glass of water and take a deep, calming breath. Again.
ps...My dear father came to my house to poke around for the snake. He thinks its gone. AAAHHHHHHHH.
good bye.

weekend miscellany.
Although it's STILL not finished, I did work on this dress a bit:
Good grief, I started this thing back in MARCH people. And it has been patiently waiting on me ever since. Can you believe I hand pleated that darn skirt and it's a silly old LINING that's keeping me from finishing it??
Anywho, that's my goal this week. Finish this dress. Maybe I just need to start doing that...set a goal each week for one finished object. UFOs count.
I also watched a load of movies. Like this one:
Decent summer fun. Made better by occasional gratuitous shots like this:
(Newcomers: I'm shallow. And contrary to what Beangirl would tell you, a little shirtless Jake Gyllenhaal never hurt anybody.) Oh, and I left these images full size. In case you need to click them to verify their...verifiability. Or whatever.
I also played on Polyvore, which has the ability to suck away an entire hour if you're not careful. You've been warned.
Whee! I already have a black enamel telephone...I'm just such a sucker for a vintage pin. What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear did a post a long time ago on this brooch, assuming it was a brass or goldtone telephone. I never thought that was quite right, and I was fairly excited by the verification that a cream pin existed. And it will soon be in my hot little hands!
That's it for my weekend wrap up...how was yours?

I also visited ebay, my favorite Saturday morning cappucino visit. Remember this adorableness that was first season Glee??
Score!!

pinterest.
I stumbled across a new site the other day and applied for an invite. It's called Pinterest.
It's sort of ingenious; A place to bookmark your favorite photos from all over the web, and organize them onto inspiration "boards". Then, you can tag them, make notes and comments, others can repin them to their boards...and Pinterest credits the image and links it back to the original site! Fabulous!
Here's a quick snapshot of a few of my boards (um, I think I have 8 or 9 now, but not all are "filled" yet. I just keep thinking of things to add and they won't go in the already created ones!)
Do any of you have a pinterest? I'd love to know so I can "follow" you! I've been meandering around in others' boards this week too, but mostly I've been trying to remember my favorite photos and projects on the web, so I can share them in one place!
All in all, a perfect Christmas vacay distraction.
I sort of needed it too. My car broke down last week, and what I originally hoped to be an inexpensive repair, turned into a likely very expensive repair, and then, finally into a NONREPAIRABLE repair. Yes, my car is D-E-D. I just paid it off in May, so it's only about 6 years old, 70K miles. Isn't that the most ridiculous thing you ever heard?
I'm pretty sad about it, not because I loved the car, but because now I have to buy a car. That puts a 3-5 year kink in my "life plan". And I was just beginning to see light and fluffy bunnies at the end of the tunnel.
Sigh.
